So I am finally doing it, I am working towards getting Google Adwords Certified. This is one of those things I should have done years ago but I have made it a personal goal and I am doing it now.
I am currently going though the Google Certification Program Learning Center to fill in any gaps in the basics of Adwords, some of which I am finding interesting. I just downloaded the desktop AdWords Editor. It feels like I originally created ad groups a lifetime ago.
I will be reporting on my education and findings along the way here on my blog and then will announce the competition of the four available exams:
Google Advertising Fundamentals Exam “This exam covers basic aspects of AdWords and online advertising, including account management and the value of search advertising.”
Search Advertising Advanced Exam “This exam covers intermediate-to-advanced best practices for managing AdWords campaigns.”
Display Advertising Advanced Exam “This exam covers intermediate-to-advanced best practices for advertising on YouTube and the Google Display Network.”
Reporting & Analysis Advanced Exam “This exam covers intermediate-to-advanced best practices for maximizing account performance using Google Analytics, Website Optimizer, the AdWords Report Center, and other analysis techniques.”
So I finally have had my first experience of Facebook putting ads (suggested post) in my newsfeed (The Auto Quote Tips – New Policy in Pennsylvania). Its interesting how they have Geo-targeted me (based on my profile) making the ad very specific to me. While I understand from a business standpoint they need to make money I’m just not a huge Facebook guy and this is one more thing to make me want to use Facebook even less.
Maybe I will just get used to it, but there is already a huge group of teens and tweens that are already not using Facebook or looking to use Facebook once they come of age. Those generations are tending to use snapchat and instagram.
A wise man (@WhiteGM) once told me “the minute your parents [and grandparents] start using something it is no longer cool”. That really resonated with me and realized that Facebook may be the biggest and best now but for how much longer?
If Google identifies a website as a “Link Seller”:
Page Rank goes down by 30%-40%
Google loses trust in that domain
Loses ability to send page rank going forward
This makes sense, but wow for Matt Cutts to come out and say this it really changes the entire future of link building.
I would assume link builders will start to compile lists of sites that do pass link equity and those that do not pass link equity. I believe SEO’s will be trying to figure out ways to determine if a site is passing value or in fact Google has turned off the transfer of link equity to the sites it links to.
What Matt Cutts fails to mention is what happens if a site is no longer trusted (was turned off from passing value) but then cleans up their act. Can they get back in Google’s good graces and start to pass page rank again? If so how long will it take?
When I click on the button it takes me to the linked in website and displays this:
And then they display this infographic:
I wonder if linked in has any statistics on recruiters viewing profiles vs. normal views. I would suspect that I get a lot of visits from all of the industry news I post on linked in but recruiters looking at my profile must be significant percentage as well.
I believe this is the first one I have ever received. Has anyone else received these?
What a way to start 2013! I was in a building on 43rd and 8th Avenue on the 17th floor overlooking times square. The building we had windows we could open so we could lean out over the crowd. We could clearly see the ball and almost all the way to Central Park. Below is my 14 second video that pans the crowd and shows the ball after it dropped:
Special thanks to my Pat my future brother in law for having us in his office. What a great night.

I just pledged $85 for the Keylet and Key Caddy to help keep my keys, money and cards organized. I like how the design reduces the amount of bulge you typically get from keys and a large wallet in your front pockets. See the video below:
I am looking forward to seeing all of the new technology they put inside the car. The honda site mentions the following features will be included in the new 2013 Honda Accord.
2013 Honda Accord Features
Lane Departure Warning (LDW)
Forward Collision Warning (FCW)
Honda-exclusive LaneWatch™ blind spot display
HondaLink™, a cloud-based system that connects you to Bluetooth®
Streaming Audio, Pandora® internet radio
SMS text message function and all your favorite digital content without hassling with your mobile phone.
The available Aha™ feature on HondaLink gives you access to personalized restaurant searches, Facebook audio feeds, audiobooks and more via the audio system interface and voice recognition
The honda website mentions the new 2013 Honda Accord will have an: “…increased passenger and cargo space in both the Sedan and the Coupe, while the overall exterior lengths are noticeably shortened, contributing to a sportier driving character and easier parking”
I am excited to test drive one to see if the the “sportier driving character” actually is true. If so I wonder if they will be available with a manual transmission much like the Acura ILX which I can’t wait to test drive.
With pictures and video coming out along with rumors about the new iPhone it seems everyone is getting excited for the new iPhone. From what I am hearing it sounds like late September 2012 is the when everyone expects the new iPhone 5 will come out.
Here you can see what could be the outside housing of the new iPhone 5:
